Ratcliffe & Sons are a father-and-son, Gas Safe registered gas and heating business (registration no. 6019962) with over 40 years in the trade and 760+ five-star reviews. Based in Coppull near Chorley, we cover Wigan, Bolton, Leyland, Standish and the wider North West — doing everyday gas and heating work for homeowners, landlords and letting agents, and doing it properly.
Who we are
Ratcliffe & Sons is a genuine family business with over 40 years in the gas and heating trade. It was built by David Ratcliffe, who has worked in the industry for more than four decades — going right back to the CORGI days, before the Gas Safe Register even existed.
David is now semi-retired, and the business is run by his son, Joseph Ratcliffe, a Gas Safe registered engineer who is on the tools every day. It's a father-and-son firm in the truest sense: two generations, one name, and a straightforward way of working — turn up when we say we will, do a safe, tidy, properly certified job, and explain everything in plain English with no hard sell.
That approach has earned us over 760 five-star reviews on MyBuilder — real feedback from the homeowners and landlords we've looked after over the years. Joseph is also undertaking a doctorate with Glasgow Caledonian University, focused on the gas industry, so the knowledge behind the business keeps moving forward as well as back.
What we do
Our core work is new boiler installation, annual boiler servicing and landlord gas safety checks (CP12), alongside boiler repairs, gas cooker installation and gas pipework. For electrical work such as EICR inspections, we work with our sister company JRM Compliance, so homeowners and landlords can get their gas and electrical compliance sorted together.
